International School Utrecht starts in 2012
Utrecht will have an International School starting the new school year 2012/2013
Utrecht Municipality, the Province of Utrecht, Utrecht University and Utrecht school boards have joint forces to prepare for this school. The school board of the “International School Hilversum Alberdingk Thijm was also closely involved in the preparations, because of its knowledge of the International Schools in Hilversum and Almere. Both the Province of Utrecht and Utrecht Municipality will support the school boards with housing facilities, start-up costs, etc.
As well as other Dutch International Schools, the International School will offer its students an education program in English, especially aimed at children of expats. The school admits students whose parents work in the Netherlands as expats, students whose parents have returned to the Netherlands after a period of expatriation and students whose parents will be expatriated in the nearby future.
International School Utrecht will start in September 2012. It offers a Primary Programme (students aged 4 to 12) and a Middle Years Programme ( students aged 12 to 16). Within a few years, the school will extend their curriculum to students aged 16 to 19, leading to a qualification welcomed by leading universities around the world, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP)
At first the International School Utrecht will be temporarily housed in a school building nearby the Diaconessen Hospital. The search for larger permanent housing continues. Tuition fees will range between €3,500 and €5,000 per student per year.
